Inspection Standards

Why HAT Properties Are Different

Hospitality Accommodations of Texas (HAT) is an association of Texas' finest bed & breakfasts, country inns, distinctive hotels and guest houses, many with significant ties to Texas history. With members throughout the state, Hospitality Accommodations of Texas (HAT) is the traveling public's assurance that the accommodations selected measure up to high expectations.

To display the prized Hospitality Accommodations of Texas (HAT) logo, properties must be impeccably maintained and professionally managed. Members must also participate in regular inspection visits and educational programs. To bear Hospitality Accommodations of Texas' (HAT) historic designation, properties must also be recognized as historical by a national, state or local historic society.

Incorporating many of the stringent requirements set forth by AAA and Mobil, Hospitality Accommodations of Texas' (HAT) standards and guidelines have been customized to deal with structures of historical significance and requirements specific to the state of Texas. The result is a comprehensive inspection program which ensures a professional approach to all aspects of innkeeping, including demonstrated excellence in the following areas:

Texas Flavor, Uniqueness, Hospitality and Professional Innkeeping - Hospitality Accommodations of Texas (HAT) properties feature authentic Texas charm and are run by helpful, well-trained innkeepers and staff that anticipate guests desires.

Attractive Setting - Guests will enjoy well-maintained landscaping, courtyards, gardens, pools or hot tubs, with sufficient parking and exterior lighting.

Exemplary Housekeeping - Impeccable cleanliness and interior upkeep, properly maintained heating, air conditioning and plumbing, and regular pest control are the standard.

Comfortable, Quality Furnishings - Guest comfort includes firm mattresses, quality bed and bath linens, bedside reading lights, ample space for guest movement, storage surfaces, and good bathroom lighting and ventilation.

Safety & Security - Keyed deadbolt and privacy locks, precaution signs clearly posted, smoke detectors, safety outlets, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits enhance personal protection.

Breakfast and/or Food Services – Guests may expect a safe, sanitary kitchen environment, quality food, preparation excellence and attractive presentation. There are, however, multiple and varied formats for food delivery. Please inquire when making reservations about a property’s hosted vs. un-hosted breakfast options. Each property’s chosen type of breakfast menu will also be clearly stated on their individual Web site and consistent with the definitions found here on this Web site.
