Overview of Property Types
To find any specific lodging type, select any one of the Regions
within the state.
With
a wide variety of accommodations available today, choosing the one that is right
for you may be confusing. To assist you, our online guide uses these simple
lodging categories:
Bed & Breakfasts -
hosted properties that include breakfast in their room rate. Breakfast may range
from simple, familiar selections to gourmet specialties. The host is usually a
knowledgeable source of information on the community, local sightseeing, events,
and restaurants.
Cabins - Similar to
a Guesthouse except more rustic. In most instances, there will not other
accommodations adjacent to this type of lodging. There may, however, be several
cabins on the property.
Guesthouses - These
are unhosted accommodations with either a Continental or Continental-plus
breakfast included. These are excellent choices for complete privacy, since
travelers have the use of an entire house. In some cases, the property owner
lives nearby; otherwise, the property is managed through a reservation agency.

Hotels - usually
larger, multilevel commercial properties known for their wide range of guest
services, rooms in several price categories, and on-premise food service. Hospitality Accommodations
of Texas (HAT) membership also includes a growing number of small, intimate luxury or
"boutique" hotels with outstanding personalized service and fine restaurants.
Inns
- the terms "inn" and "country inn" are often used interchangeably -- not to
imply these properties are found only in the country, but to give a sense of
their ambiance. As such, inns are closer in definition to bed & breakfasts than
to hotels. Generally, they tend to be larger than bed & breakfasts and may offer
additional meal options or a high quality restaurant on the premises, yet still
manage to retain the charm of an individual home.
Ranch - In addition
to lodging accommodations which may be of any type, a ranch contains acreage,
livestock and is generally remote. Actual ranching activities may or may not be
available to guests.

Different Types of
Breakfasts
Continental - Coffee, tea, and one or more pastry options; some include juice.
Continental Plus - An expanded Continental menu of coffee, tea, pastries, juice and/or fresh fruit,
and in some cases, a simple entree.
Full Breakfast - A
complete meal with hot entree, side dishes, juice and/or fresh fruit, pastries
or bread, and coffee or tea.
Special Dietary
Requirements - Most Hospitality Accommodations
of Texas (HAT) properties accommodate special requests
stemming from dietary concerns or food allergies. Please inquire when making
reservations about a property's capabilities in this area. Advance notice is
commonly required to arrange for dietary substitutions. |
